If you’re anything like me, fall is a magical time filled with vibrant colors, cozy vibes, and endless crafting opportunities. Today, I’m so excited to share with you a fun and festive seasonal project: how to make a fall hanging door basket.
This project is not only fun and creative but also adds a touch of autumn charm to your home. Plus, all the supplies are from Michaels, making it super accessible. Let’s get started! Some links in this post may lead to websites where we are an affiliate. Click [HERE] for our disclosure statement.
Materials You’ll Need:
- A wicker hanging basket
- Artificial fall foliage (leaves, berries, small pumpkins, etc.)
- Assorted Fall Flowers
- Floral foam brick
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks (we use our Grace Monroe Home Glue Skillet)
- Wire Cutters
- Fall wired ribbon
- Florist Wire
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Prepare the Basket:
Start by prepping your wicker hanging basket. Ensure it’s sturdy and clean. If you want a more personalized touch, consider painting it in a fall color palette before you begin assembling your arrangement.
2. Insert Floral Foam:
Cut a piece of floral foam to fit snugly inside the basket. This will serve as the base to hold your fall foliage and flowers in place. Secure it with a bit of hot glue to ensure it doesnβt move around.
3. Begin Adding Foliage:
Using wire cutters, trim your artificial fall foliage and greenery into pieces. Start by inserting larger pieces like branches of leaves and base fillers into the floral foam. This will give your basket its basic shape and fullness.
4. Build Layers for Depth:
Add focal flowers, and then smaller accents such as berries, small pumpkins, and any other fall-themed ornaments. Ensure you distribute these elements evenly to create depth and a balanced look. Use hot glue to secure any pieces that might not stick firmly into the foam.
5. Add Ribbon for a Final Touch:
Choose a decorative ribbon that complements your fall theme. Make a bow and attach it to the handle or front of the basket using floral wire. This adds a lovely finishing touch and extra flair to your creation.
6. Secure and Adjust:
Once all elements are in place, step back and look at your basket from different angles. Make necessary adjustments to ensure everything is secured and achieves the desired aesthetic.
Hang your beautiful fall door basket on your front door and enjoy the festive charm it brings to your home!
