As a child, fall was always a such a special time for me. I remember the joy of crunching leaves under my feet, and the vibrant array of colors that painted the trees. Now, as an adult, I want to bring that same warmth and wonder into my home. There’s no better way to start than with a beautiful fall-themed swag for your mailbox. Not only does it add a pop of color to your curb, but it also invites the festive spirit right to your doorstep. Today, I’m thrilled to share with you how to create a stunning fall swag using artificial fall flowers, faux pumpkins, berries, and a perfectly tied wired ribbon bow.
Materials You’ll Need to Make a Fall Mailbox Swag:
- Artificial fall flowers (think vibrant oranges, deep reds, and sunny yellows)
- Faux pumpkins, leaves, and berries
- Pine Mailbox Swag – here is the one we use
- Wired ribbon in autumn colors
- Wire cutters
- Floral wire
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Step-by-Step Instructions for Making a Fall Mailbox Swag:
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
First things first, make sure you have all your materials ready. Lay them out on a clean workspace to have a clear view of everything you’ll be working with.
Step 2: Create the Base
We used a pine mailbox swag. If you can find one of these, it is perfect to use and makes creating a mailbox swag so simple. You can also make a fall mailbox swag using a section of an artificial pine Christmas swag cut to fit the width of your mailbox.
Step 3: Attach the Flowers
Begin attaching your artificial fall flowers to the base. Secure each stem by wrapping floral wire tightly around them and then covering it with floral tape for a clean finish. Arrange the flowers in a cascading pattern, with the largest blooms at the top and tapering down with smaller ones.
Step 4: Add Pumpkins and Berries
Next, it’s time to incorporate the faux pumpkins, leaves, acorns, and berries. Use the hot glue gun, or glue skillet, to attach the items in between the flowers. This adds texture and visual interest to your mailbox swag.
Step 5: Finish with the Bow
Cut a length of the wired ribbon and create a large, multi-loop bow. You can go here to see our easy to follow hand tied bow tutorial. Secure the bow to the top of your swag using floral wire. We prefer to use 26 gauge floral wire. Adjust the loops and tails of the bow to make sure it sits perfectly and adds a beautiful touch to your design.
Step 6: Attach to Your Mailbox
Finally, use additional floral wire to secure your fall swag to the mailbox. Make sure it’s firmly attached and won’t slip or fall with the autumn weather.
