Why a Grapevine Wreath Is So Great for Beginners

If you are newer to wreath making, grapevine wreaths are one of the easiest bases to start with.

They already have beautiful texture.
They have natural openings for tucking stems.
They do not need to be completely covered.
They work with almost any decorating style.

A 14 inch grapevine wreath is a perfect size for most standard doors. It makes a statement without feeling overwhelming.

And the best part is you do not have to overthink it. Let the natural vines do some of the work for you.

Step 1: Cut and Fluff Your Florals

Before attaching anything, take a few minutes to prep your stems.

Use wire cutters to separate the pink boxwood bush into smaller pieces. This gives you flexibility and makes arranging so much easier.

Next, cut apart the pink mum and berry bush. Separate the larger mum blooms from the berry sprigs so you can layer intentionally.

Now fluff everything.

Spread out the boxwood so it feels full. Gently bend the mum stems so the blooms face outward. Adjust the berries so they add dimension and movement.

Fluffing may seem small, but it is one of the most important steps. It is what takes your wreath from flat to full.

Step 2: Build a Crescent Style Floral Design

For this wreath, we created a crescent style design. That simply means the florals are concentrated on one side of the wreath instead of going all the way around.

Start by placing your pink boxwood pieces along one side of the grapevine wreath. Follow the natural curve so the greenery flows beautifully.

Create a base layer of greenery first. This gives your focal flowers something to sit on and creates fullness.

Next, begin adding your pink mum blooms. Instead of spacing them evenly, cluster them together. Grouping flowers creates impact and gives your wreath that designer look.

Fill in around the mums with berry sprigs and extra greenery.

And here is a little encouragement for you. Do not glue anything down until you love the placement. Play with it. Adjust it. Step back and look at it from a distance.

There is no rush.

Step 3: Secure Everything with Hot Glue

Once you are happy with your design, it is time to secure it.

Apply hot glue to the end of each stem and press it firmly into the grapevine wreath. Hold it in place for a few seconds so it sets securely.

Continue working through your greenery and florals until everything feels sturdy and in place.

Step 4: Make a Simple Wired Ribbon Bow

This wreath has a soft and delicate feel, so a smaller ribbon works beautifully.

Using 1 and 1/2 inch wired ribbon, create a simple bow with two or four loops. Pinch the center tightly and secure it with a small piece of wire or a twist tie.

Fluff the loops and adjust them until they look balanced and full.

Wired ribbon makes this easy because it holds its shape.

Step 5: Attach the Bow

Place your bow at the base of your floral cluster. This anchors the entire design and gives it a finished look.

Add hot glue to the back of the bow and press it firmly into the grapevine wreath. Hold it in place for a few seconds until it sets.

Adjust the ribbon tails so they rest naturally within the greenery.

And just like that, your easy DIY spring grapevine wreath is finished.
