What You’ll Need to Make a Bumble Bee Swag
- Grapevine swag base – We used this one from Amazon: Click here to order
- Bee-themed sign – Ours came from Etsy: Click here to view
- Faux greenery – We love using mixed greens like eucalyptus, boxwood, or fern for texture
- Filler flowers – Think yellow daisies, white mini roses, or anything with a soft, summery vibe
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Floral wire or pipe cleaners
- Wire cutters
- Optional: Ribbon for a bow
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep Your Base
We’re using a 14″ straight grapevine swag base for this project — it’s the perfect size for a front door or to hang on a wall. You can grab the same one we used here: Click to order on Amazon.
Start by giving your swag base a quick shake outside to remove any loose bits of vine or debris (grapevine can be a little messy straight out of the box!). Then take a moment to trim off any extra long or unruly twigs so you have a nice, clean shape to work with.
Lay your swag flat with the curved side down and the flatter, smoother side facing up. This will be your design surface — perfect for attaching your greenery, sign, and flowers!
2. Attach the Bee Sign
Your sign is the focal point of this swag, so you want to place it first. We like to secure signs off-center (just a bit above or below the middle) to keep things visually interesting.
If your sign has holes, use floral wire or pipe cleaners to attach it directly to the grapevine. If not, a little hot glue on the back edges works too — just make sure it’s secure.
Pro tip: Angle your sign slightly for a whimsical touch that fits perfectly with the bee theme!
3. Add the Greenery
Now it’s time to add life and movement with greenery! Start by cutting your greenery stems down to manageable pieces (around 6–8 inches). Then, insert them into the grapevine, working in one direction (either left to right or right to left).
We like to start with the largest greenery pieces and work our way down to the more delicate ones. This gives your swag fullness and flow.
Secure each stem with hot glue or by twisting floral wire around it.
Don’t forget the top and bottom of your swag! Adding a little greenery that flows outward at each end will help elongate the design and make it more polished.
4. Add Your Filler Flowers
Now comes the fun part — adding pops of color and personality! Choose a few filler flowers that complement your bee theme. We went with yellow and white florals for a bright, summery look.
Tuck these into the greenery, focusing around the sign and throughout the swag to create balance. Be sure to step back and look at your design from a distance to make sure the colors are distributed evenly.
Remember: You don’t need to overdo it. Sometimes just a few well-placed blooms make the biggest impact!
5. Optional: Add a Bow
If you love a bow (and we do!), this is your moment. A black and yellow striped ribbon or bee-themed ribbon would be absolutely perfect. Tie a simple bow and attach it using wire or hot glue either at the top, bottom, or side of your swag.
It’s totally optional, but it’s a great way to finish off the look with a little extra charm.
Now hang up your Bumble Bee Swag and admire your work! Isn’t it amazing what a few supplies and a little creativity can do?
And You’re Done!
This is such a fun, lighthearted project — and the best part is, it’s completely customizable. Swap out the florals for sunflowers, daisies, or even lavender for a different vibe. Use a vertical sign, a painted bee, or even a honeycomb accent. The possibilities are endless!
