If you want to make your home feel festive this holiday season without spending a ton of time or money, this simple DIY window swag is perfect. It’s quick, lightweight, and looks charming from the street. Plus, you don’t need any wreaths or complicated supplies.
You can watch us make this swag step by step in our video here: Simple Holiday Window Swag DIY.
We kept this design super simple and easy to recreate. All we did was take two pine branches and place them opposite each other. Then we layered two glittered stems on top, added a ribbon bow, and secured everything with a zip tie. That’s it! The result is a light, cheerful swag that hangs beautifully in your window.
What You’ll Need to Make a Window Swag
Here’s what we used for this project:
- Pine greenery (this is the exact one we used: Amazon link)
- Ribbon bow (any style you love)
- Floral wire, pipe cleaners, or a zip tie to secure everything
- Command hook or window hanger
That’s all you need for a festive swag that looks polished and cheerful.
How to Make a Window Swag
First, position your two pine branches opposite each other. You don’t need a lot of greenery for this; the idea is to keep it lightweight and easy to hang.
Next, layer two glittered stems on top of the pine branches. These add a little sparkle and holiday cheer without overwhelming the design.
Once everything is arranged how you like it, use a zip tie to secure the stems together in the center. This keeps your swag tight and easy to hang.
Finally, tuck in a ribbon bow wherever it looks best, usually at the center or slightly above, to give the swag a finished, festive touch. You can also glue a shatterproof ornament to the center to jazz it up a bit if you like!
Hanging Your Swag
Use a Command hook or window hanger to place the swag in your window. Because it’s lightweight, it stays in place easily, and you don’t have to worry about it sliding or shifting.
Step back and check how it looks from the street. The layered pine and glitter stems give the swag dimension, and the bow adds that extra bit of charm.
Quick, Festive, and Budget-Friendly
This holiday window swag is so simple, yet it instantly makes your home feel festive. The best part is, it’s lightweight, easy to make, and inexpensive. You can make a few for multiple windows in an afternoon, and they look great together.
