Hey friend, if you are looking for something fun, bright, and guaranteed to make people smile when they walk up to your door, this is it.
This oversized tulip carrot is one of those projects that looks impressive but is actually super simple to make. No fancy base needed. No complicated techniques. Just two bunches of tulips, a little greenery, some zip ties, and a beautiful bow.
That’s it.
We shared the full tutorial on YouTube, but I wanted to walk you through it here step by step so you can confidently make one for your own home. And trust me, if you can gather flowers and tighten a zip tie, you can absolutely do this. It is so easy!
What You’ll Need to Make a Tulip Carrot
- Two bunches of orange tulips from Michaels
- Greenery stems such as ferns or soft filler greenery
- Zip ties
- Ribbon for a bow
- Wire cutters or scissors

Step 1: Fluff Those Tulips
Start by taking your tulips out of their packaging and separating them so you can work with them easily.
Now here’s something I always say. Fluffing matters.
Gently bend the wired stems so the blooms do not look stiff. Pull a few forward. Spread them out. You want them to feel full and natural.
These blooms are going to form the body of our carrot, so they will be hanging downward. Go ahead and turn them upside down so you can start visualizing the shape.
Do not overthink it. We are not looking for perfect. We are looking for pretty and full.
Step 2: Shape Your Carrot
Take your first bunch of tulips and gather the stems tightly together at the top. Let the blooms fall downward naturally.
Now grab your second bunch and layer it right underneath the first one, slightly offsetting it so the flowers fill in any gaps. You want a nice, thick carrot body.
Hold both bunches together and start shaping them into a carrot silhouette. Fuller and wider at the top. Slightly tapered toward the bottom.
If your stems are wired, gently bend the bottom inward to create that carrot point. This is where it really starts to come to life.
Once you love the shape, secure everything tightly with a zip tie near the top. Pull it snug so it holds firmly in place.
You are going to look at it and think, wait, that actually looks like a carrot. Yes, it does!
Step 3: Add the Greenery Top
Now let’s give this carrot its garden fresh look.
Take your greenery stems and insert them right at the top where all your tulip stems are gathered. Fan them out and upward just like carrot tops growing in the garden.
Layer a few pieces until it looks full and balanced. Ferns are beautiful for this because they add softness and movement.
Once you are happy with it, secure the greenery with another zip tie around the same area.
Do not worry about the zip ties showing. We are about to cover those with something pretty.
Step 4: Fluff and Adjust
Before adding your bow, take a minute to step back.
This is the moment where you tweak and perfect.
Pull a tulip forward if it is hiding.
Adjust the greenery if it feels uneven.
Refine that tapered carrot shape.
These little adjustments make a big difference. Do not rush this part. This is where your design goes from cute craft to boutique worthy.
You are doing better than you think.

Step 5: Add a Beautiful Bow
Now for the finishing touch. The bow.
Choose a ribbon that makes you smile. We love using something with contrast like stripes or gingham because it really pops against the orange tulips.
Make your bow a little bigger than you think you need. Big bows belong on big carrots.
Fluff it well and attach it right over the zip ties using floral wire, another zip tie, or hot glue for extra security.
Let the tails drape naturally down the carrot. It softens everything and gives it that finished designer look.
And just like that, you are done. I used wire to create a hanger to hang on the door.
Why I Love This Project So Much
I love this carrot because it proves something important.
You do not need complicated mechanics or expensive supplies to create something beautiful.
You just need
A simple idea
A willingness to try
And a little creativity
This project comes together in about 30 minutes, and it makes such a big impact. That is my kind of decorating.
