Building a new home can be stressful, and when I say stressful, I mean the kind of stress that makes you eat a gallon of Cookies & Cream Haagen Dazs, cry in the corner, and wonder what on Earth you were thinking when you passed on that newly remodeled house in the suburbs to build your “dream’ home.

There are so many decisions to make. What paint colors to choose? Which fixtures to purchase for the bathrooms? Rubbed bronze or chrome? Flat or shiny? Basement or crawlspace? Brick or siding, and if you choose brick you have to pick out which color brick. Who knew there are like 1,965,783 shades of red?!?  The list goes on…and on….and on!

When my husband and I were in the process of building our home we had our toddler, Stella, and a brand new baby girl, Olivia. About half way through the construction process, we received a huge blow when my husband was let go from his corporate job.

We were absolutely devastated, but we knew and trusted that God had a plan, and that this home was where we were supposed to raise our girls. Throughout the construction process and all of the decisions we had to make, uncertainty, and let-downs, hands down, one of the most special moments of building our home was writing bible verses on the baseboards, floors, and walls of our home.

Here are some of the scriptures we wrote throughout our home:

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the MOST HIGH will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and to the days of Eternity.” 2 Peter 3:18

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and confirm for us the work of our hands; yes Confirm the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17

We loved writing bible verses on the foundation of our home, because it was a way to give our home and property to the Lord. It was incredibly special and represents that God is the foundation of our lives and our home.

Another really fun thing that we did while we were building our new home, is putting our handprints in the cement for the patio. This is a sweet reminder of our lives together that I will cherish for years.
