Christmas Eve is such a special time in our home. It is a time when we come together as a family and celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Our children are always so excited on Christmas Eve because they are anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus, and we all know that the day ahead is going to be full of excitement and joy. On Christmas Eve, we all get together at Gigi and Papa’s house and spend the evening together. The Christmas season is such a busy time, so it is nice to be able to get together, slow down, and enjoy our time as a family.
We spend time hanging out, taking pictures, and listening to Christmas music while we get the final touches of dinner prepared. There is a lot of laughter and shenanigans from little ones during this time!
On Christmas Eve, it is our family tradition that we have a special meal of beef Wellington, twice baked potato casserole, green bean casserole, and pearl onions in a delicious cream sauce for dinner. This is one of my very favorite meals!
We smoke and prepare our beef Wellington ahead of time so all we have to do is pop it in the oven until it is golden brown and it is ready to serve. You can see the way we prepare it HERE. We finish this meal with our bellies full!
Every Christmas Eve, after dinner, Papa reads The Night Before Christmas. The kids love this tradition! The smallest kids climb up into his lap while he reads the story. This is a special time for all of us. We love the memories that we are making as a family!
After dinner and story time, we gather around and all sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus. The kids all blow out the birthday candle together. We want our children to always cherish and know the true meaning of Christmas. The food, gifts, and decorations are fun, but Jesus is the true reason for the season!
Next, we enjoy chocolate cake and homemade cherry pie for dessert! This chocolate cake is from Publix, and it is sooooo good. It is rich and decadent. We have purchased if it every Christmas for years because it is so delicious!
After dessert, it is time to head home and get the kids ready for bed so Santa can make his special visit! Our family all lives next door to each other, so it is not a long journey home. Then, we prepare to gather together again at Gigi and Papa’s house early Christmas morning for presents and breakfast. You can go here to see our Christmas Breakfast Tradition.
We enjoy our Christmas Eve tradition so much! From the delicious meal, to the story, and birthday celebration for Jesus, it is a time for making memories and enjoying time with the ones we love and cherish. Do you have any special Christmas Eve traditions?
