This DIY giant gingerbread man is so adorable! I made two gingerbread men to incorporate into my Christmas decor this year. You only need a few materials to make this, and you can decorate it any way you like. The gingerbread men I made are around 6 feet tall. HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A GIANT GINGERBREAD MAN:

Step One: Gather your supplies. The first thing you will need to make a giant gingerbread man is insulated foam board (we used 5’x8’x2” insulation board.) You can use plywood to make this, but it will be thinner and will not have the thick “cookie” appearance.

Step Two:  Draw your gingerbread man on the insulation board. I just free handed it, and drew the gingerbread, but if you have a large enough stencil or way to transfer the outline on the board, you can use that. If you need to you can first draw it on a large piece of cardboard or Kraft paper and then trace it onto your insulated board. I started drawing his head at the 5’6” measurement on my insulation board, and that kept his body, arms, and legs proportional.

Step Three: Cut out your gingerbread man. After you have your gingerbread man drawn out, you will need to use a jigsaw, hot knife, or serrated knife to cut it out. I used jigsaw to cut mine out, but you can use whatever you choose. The insulation board is very easy to cut through, but please do it cautiously so not to injure yourself.

How to Paint a Giant Gingerbread

Step Four: Paint your gingerbread man. After your gingerbread man is cut out, you will need to painted the cut-out using a cinnamon colored exterior paint. I painted both front and back twice, letting the paint dry in between coats.

Step Five: Decorate Your Gingerbread Man. After the paint is completely dry it is time to decorate your gingerbread man. I used a red and white 1/2” rope and glued it all around the outside of the finger, leaving about a finger tip of space around the outside. I used my cordless, battery operated glue gun to secure it in place.

Once that was around the outside, I measured the space for his sleeves and pants, and glued those pieces on his arms and legs. Then I glued three gingerbread cookie ornaments down his middle as buttons on his shirt and used peppermint candy ornaments for his mouth. I used a styrofoam, white ornament and cut it in half and used the one half for each of his eyes.

Giant Gingerbread Decoration

There you have it! It only takes a few materials and a little time to make the most adorable giant gingerbread man. I absolutely LOVE how this turned out and can’t wait to use the ones I made (along with my giant lollipops) in my Christmas decor this season. These will be perfect to incorporate in with your candy themed Christmas decor. If you loved this DIY project let us know!
